STEEL MANUFACTURING FACILITY INVESTS IN HEAT PIPE HEAT EXCHANGER TO PRE-HEAT COMBUSTION AIR
This eastern European steel manufacturer sought to replace a number of failing conventional air pre-heaters with a superior and more reliable technology.

SOLUTION
After a period of technical consultation, a large finned heat pipe counter-flow air pre-heater was selected for installation. The unit was custom designed as a retro-fit into an existing operations space, thus limiting overall project costs. The system features side access door to facilitate easy maintenance and cleaning of the pipes.
RESULTS
The client reported a significant increase in recovery after installation of the first unit. These results coupled with the quality and reliability of the installed product, management at this facility anticipate the order and installation of two more systems in 2015.
The primary selection criteria for the coal gas pre-heater included a highly reliable system requiring minimal maintenance that would have a long life expectancy.
